📍 Brussels, Belgium | 🗓 10–12 September 2026
Following the CYPHER COST Action Training School on Scientific Machine Learning for Digital Twins (7–9 September 2026), we are pleased to announce the Workshop & Hackathon on Reduced-Order Modeling for Advanced Combustion Systems, taking place at Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB), Brussels, Belgium.
This hackathon is dedicated to tackling a data challenge on Codabench to build a reduced-order model of a dynamical combustion system. Participants will be provided with training data for an externally forced laminar flame, and submitted models will be tested on a series of sinusoidal and step excitations.
Working in teams of 3 to 4 participants, attendees will develop and evaluate reduced-order models capable of accurately reproducing the system dynamics. The best-performing models in terms of accuracy, computational speed, and physical consistency will be rewarded.
The workshop welcomes PhD students, Early-Career Investigators (ECIs), postdoctoral researchers, and professionals interested in combustion systems, reduced-order modeling, data-driven methods, and scientific machine learning.
⚠️ Only 70 places are available. Participation is by application and selection.
📝 After submission, applications will be evaluated by a selection committee. Successful applicants will be notified of their acceptance and invited to confirm their participation.
💶 Accepted participants will be required to pay a €100 registration fee, which covers lunches and the social dinner during the workshop.
💸 Travel reimbursement and per diem support may be available for selected CYPHER COST Action members, subject to COST eligibility rules and available funding.
